The Norton Law Firm, a litigation boutique representing plaintiffs and defendants in complex civil litigation, is pleased to announce the arrival of two new associates. Heather Bates and Matt Liscovitz joined the firm following their completion of judicial clerkships.
“Heather and Matt bring impressive courtroom credentials to the firm, having clerked for esteemed judges on the federal bench in California,” said Fred Norton, co-founder of The Norton Law Firm. “Additionally, both excelled in law school, where they were honored for their academic achievements. We are delighted to welcome them to our growing firm.”
Bates most recently served as a law clerk for the Honorable Jon S. Tigar on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in Oakland. She previously practiced as an honors deputy attorney general in the California Department of Justice’s Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse, where she investigated and litigated cases involving Medicaid fraud under the False Claims Act. Additionally, Bates served as a law clerk for the Honorable John A. Mendez on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California in Sacramento.
Bates graduated first in her class from the University of California Davis School of Law where she was elected to the Order of the Coif. A dual citizen of the United States and Canada, she is an honors graduate of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
Liscovitz joins The Norton Law Firm from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit where he clerked for the Honorable Ana de Alba. He previously clerked for Judge de Alba on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. Liscovitz gained hands-on trial experience as a Fresno County public defender, where he conducted four trials and managed a misdemeanor caseload.
He earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was a senior editor of the Michigan Law Review, and his B.A., cum laude, from Haverford College, where he was a captain of the baseball team.
